About the event
In our western society, it’s safe to say that anger gets a bad rap. Of course, it’s easy to understand why such an emotion could be misconstrued and misunderstood. Perhaps you’ve heard of more than one tradition that frames anger as entirely “negative”, seeing only its potential for destructive behavior and its capacity for harming oneself or others. Yet, from our experience of reclaiming anger consciously — individually and as a couple — we must say that this is not the whole picture.
There are three particular things that we know about anger:
- Anger has power.
- Anger has intelligence / wisdom.
- Anger has energy.
So, why is this important?
If we don’t work with our anger, intimately getting to know our experience of it - the power, intelligence, and energy then becomes either suppressed or destructive. When we repress things that are naturally wanting to emerge, they can turn on us and cause us pain - emotionally, psycho-somatically, and relationally.
In light of the state of the world, we feel strongly that this is an auspicious time to work with what we have abandoned in the shadows. To prevent anger from unconsciously morphing into unhealthy aggression, outrage, hostility, or violence - which we are now seeing rampant all over the world — we must get to know it in our own bodies.
If you are a seeker walking the path less traveled, who is questioning what you’ve been taught, and are desiring to experience more energy and passion in your life — the doorway may be to reclaim the vitality in your anger.
WHAT WE WILL BE EXPLORING:
In this class, we will provide an introduction to working with anger experientially and we will support you in opening the door to reclaiming your vitality, power, and aliveness. We will open a sacred space for this work and will share some theory from the Process-Work paradigm as well as our personal experiences. You will have an opportunity to approach your anger somatically and potentially discover an aspect of its medicine. There will also be a window to share your reflections and ask questions. We will close the space as a group by offering a simple ceremony for you to honor the elemental energy of fire.
Please note: this is not a webinar, but a sacred community space that we are creating together, and therefore we ask that you register only if you know that you will be able to attend live for the entire duration of the gathering. (A recording will be sent out to those who participate).
You do not need any prior experience to join, but we ask that you come with:
- a beginner’s mind and an open heart
- a respectful attitude
- a willingness to explore the unknown
WHAT TO BRING:
- a candle
- a toothpick
- journal and pen
